At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Sugar Land, we serve the greater Houston area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, amputation, cardiac conditions, Parkinson’s disease and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
With more than 18 years in healthcare, consisting of clinical and operational roles, Bindu Varghese brings a solid understanding of overall hospital operations to Encompass Health Sugar Land Rehabilitation Hospital. She has been with Encompass Health Sugar Land for more than 11 years and served as the director of therapy operations for eight of those years. Bindu has a clinical background in occupational therapy and also holds a master’s degree in business administration. Since her time at Encompass Health Sugar Land, she has led the team to its successful completion in many large scale projects. She has also served on Encompass Health’s National Therapy Leadership Board and Diversity Council. Bindu is driven and passionate in providing quality care to the patients and getting them back home with their loved ones.
Medical Director
Dr. Durgam serves as the medical director at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land.
Dr. Durgam serves as the medical director at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land. She is a board-certified specialist in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. She completed her training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, located in the Bronx, New York. Her clinical interests include neuro-rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury, post-trauma rehabilitation, chronic pain management and geriatric rehabilitation management. Dr. Durgam has co-authored book chapters in stroke rehabilitation and musculoskeletal medicine. Her work has also been published in peer-reviewed journals. She holds professional membership with the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. Dr. Durgam works in an inter-disciplinary approach to optimize her patients' functional outcomes.
Dr. Durgam is an independent private practice physician.
Controller
Teri comes to us with more than 25 years of healthcare finance and leadership experience. She has previously held leadership roles in acute care hospitals, physician service/management organizations and dental services organizations. Teri earned her master’s degree in business administration and accounting from DeVry University.
Director of Quality & Risk
Lisa brings more than 10 years of healthcare experience to the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land team as the director of quality & risk. Prior to joining the Sugar Land team, she worked in several settings including long term acute care and behavioral health, managing ancillary services, health information, quality and medical staff services. Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Houston Clear Lake and her master’s degree in business administration from Texas Women’s University. Lisa is passionate about quality outcomes, process improvement and standardization in healthcare.
Human Resources Director
Hannah Collins brings more than 15 years of human resources experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land. She has extensive healthcare experience. Hannah graduated from the University of Phoenix with a master’s degree in business administration with a focus on healthcare management. She is a 2000 Olympian in the 100m hurdles and a member of Society for Human Resources management (SHRM).
Business Development Director
Tracey is a physical therapist who brings more than 24 years of healthcare experience to her role.
Tracey is a physical therapist who brings more than 24 years of healthcare experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land. She has over 14 years at Encompass Health and received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. During her tenure at Encompass Health, she has worked as a clinician as well as led the marketing team. She believes that all patients have a right to receive the best care possible to improve their functional mobility and ultimately improve their quality of life.
Facilities Management Director
Christopher joined Encompass Health in April 2019 as the facilities management director and is a certified healthcare facility manager. He has 20 years’ experience in healthcare facilities management and regulatory compliance for TJC, CMS and TDH. In collaboration with all hospital departments, Christopher is dedicated to providing a safe, functional and quality hospital environment for patients and staff. His mission in doing this is to provide a positive impact on patient care for the community we serve.
Chief Nursing Officer
Sheri Morris brings 35 years of healthcare experience to her role as chief nursing officer to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Sugar Land. Sheri has her master degree in nursing. In her 35 years in healthcare, she has spent 26 years as a registered nurse and more than 20 years in nursing leadership roles.
Director of Therapy Operations
Jessica has more than eight years of experience as speech language pathologist with Encompass Health Sugar Land. She served as the lead therapist and therapy manager for the past few years. Jessica earned her master’s degree in communication disorders from West Texas A&M University as well as a master’s in business administration (MBA) from Texas Woman’s University. She is passionate about providing excellent patient care and has a strong desire to see patients improve their function in order to have a better quality of life.
Director of Pharmacy
Megan is a registered pharmacist with over three decades of practice, after receiving her bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati located in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2011, she obtained a master's degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare from Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio. Megan’s background experience draws from management in retail, clinical pharmacist for acute care hospital and out-patient infusion, and eight years as a director of pharmacy in the acute care setting. Megan is an active member of The American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and is licensed in numerous states.
