Dave Gesser, the father of two boys, Colton and Chris, and happy husband of Renee for 24 years, could have never predicted what would happen to him at only 50 years old. Dave experienced a major stroke and was admitted to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River to regain his independence. Dave arrived at our hospital unable to walk or dress himself.
“I really didn’t know how high to set my goals because of my condition,” he said. “I didn’t really know how high my ceiling was and what was a realistic goal to set.” However, Dave shared with his clinical team that his goal was to get stronger overall.
After much work at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River, Dave left walking without assistance! The strength and mobility in his left arm and hand drastically improved, as well.. He shared gratitude for the speech, occupational and physical therapy teams for their dedication and care, especially Cheryl, Stephanie, Jessica and Jessica. “They went beyond the call of duty for me,” he said.
