KISSIMMEE, Fla., Jan. 23, 2024- Amanda Atkinson has been appointed as chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Kissimmee. The hospital is a 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital under construction at 4980 Calypso Cay Way in Kissimmee, Florida. The hospital is expected to open to patients in April 2024.

Atkinson will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations at the Kissimmee hospital, as well as patient care and quality. The hospital will provide 24-hour nursing care along with physical, occupational and speech therapies to patients recovering from major illnesses and injuries, including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and complex orthopedic conditions.

Prior to joining Encompass Health, Atkinson served as chief executive officer at Select Specialty Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In this position, she was responsible for all clinical and business operations for the 72-bed hospital. Atkinson has an extensive background in hospital administration and leadership in various settings, including her time as chief nursing officer at Encompass Health of Rock Hill in South Carolina.

Atkinson earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina and a master’s degree in business and healthcare administration from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is an active member of the American College of Healthcare Professionals and the American Organization of Nurse Executives. She is also a proud veteran member of the United States Army Nurse Corp.
