COVID survivor reunites family after months in hospital

Dusty Woods was recently discharged from Novant Health Rehabilitation Hospital after a long recovery from COVID-19. She had severe blood clots and issues with her kidneys, causing her need bilateral amputation of both legs and a hand. She spent four months in the hospital followed by weeks in rehabilitation. Her therapy team says she had to put in a lot of hard work to get where she is today. “Starting off, we just had to get her where should could just tolerate sitting up and moving again,” said Randy Harper, Director of Therapy Operations for Encompass Health.

In addition to COVID recovery, Dusty had to learn to work with three new prosthetic limbs. Dusty says without the support of her family and her healthcare teams, she would not have made it through this journey. “Everyone I’ve come in contact with has been so supportive of me and helpful that you almost hate to leave,” Dusty says. She wants to encourage others who may be recovering from COVID-19: “Let me tell you there’s hope because COVID took a lot from me, and it almost took my life. But as you see, I’m still alive. “
