Bluffton, S.C., June 22, 2021 – Wayne Boutwell has been appointed as chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Bluffton. In his position as CEO, Boutwell will oversee all of the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 38-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, located at 107 Seagrass Station Road in Bluffton (Hilton Head). He assumed the position on May 3, 2021.

Joining the Encompass Health leadership team with more than 24 years of industry experience, Boutwell brings an immense knowledge of healthcare operations, multi-system management, and executive leadership skills. Boutwell most recently served as the CEO of ContinueCare Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina. He has also served in leadership positions at various healthcare systems, including the CEO of Select Medical, Regency Hospital of Central Georgia. In this role, he formulated and implemented business plans and strategies to ensure profitable operations, providing overall strategic and operational direction. He also served as the chief operating officer for Wellstar Atlanta Medical Center, supporting the goals and objectives of a 762-bed acute care level 1 trauma hospital and coordinating operational improvement projects across various functional areas.

Boutwell earned his bachelor’s degree in management from University of Phoenix and his master’s in business administration from Mercer University. He is a member of the Columbia American Heart Association Executive Leadership Team. He is also an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow.
