First responder regains strength at Encompass Health of Newnan after COVID-19 battle

In May, Cydney Tate was admitted to the hospital just one day prior to her first scheduled COVID-19 vaccine appointment, as she was struggling to breathe after contracting COVID-19. Several days later, she went into cardiac arrest due to COVID-19 complications. Cydney recovered in the ICU and was later transferred to Encompass Health Newnan for rehabilitation. When she first came to Encompass Health, she could barely sit up without support because her body was too weak after being immobilized in a hospital bed. “It was taking two of us initially to get us to her a standing position,” said Gary Baker, team therapy lead. “The deficits [for patients recovering from COVID-19] are real, they are heart breaking and they are life changing.” After nearly two weeks of rehabilitation, Cydney was able to walk out of the hospital, and she has since received her first dose of the COVID vaccine.
