LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., Nov. 3, 2021– Jennifer Weiss has been named CEO of the future Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute of Libertyville. The 60-bed hospital, which is under construction at 1201 American Way, is expected to begin caring for patients in March 2022.

Weiss, who assumed the position on Oct. 5, 2021, will be responsible for overseeing the future hospital’s day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality. The hospital will provide 24-hour nursing care and physical, occupational, and speech therapies to patients recovering from major illnesses and injuries including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation, and complex orthopedic conditions.

“Jennifer’s extensive experience as a post-acute healthcare leader makes her a perfect fit to lead our new Encompass Health hospital in Libertyville,” said Troy DeDecker, president of Encompass Health’s central region. “I am confident in Jennifer’s vision for the hospital and look forward to opening this new hospital to help patients heal and find hope again through rehabilitative services customized for their needs and goals.”

Weiss most recently served in a number of leadership roles at AMITA Health in Chicago, including regional director of rehabilitation services and director of respiratory care. In these roles, she oversaw operations of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center and Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, comprised of a 65-bed and 15-bed acute inpatient rehabilitation units, as well as acute care, outpatient, sports medicine and day rehabilitation therapy services. Weiss previously served as system director of rehabilitation services at Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Sinai Health System, and as coordinator of inpatient rehabilitation at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Ill.

A licensed physical therapist with 15 years of leadership experience, Weiss completed her bachelor’s degree in human development and social policy at Northwestern University and her master’s degree in physical therapy at Northwestern University Medical School, as well as a master’s degree in business administration at Northern Illinois University. She is board certified in healthcare management as a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association.
