The Quad Cities Rehabilitation Institute is scheduled to open to patients in late August

The Quad Cities Rehabilitation Institute is scheduled to open to patients in late August, and Dr. Albert Park,  medical director of Quad Cities Rehabilitation Institute, recently spoke with KWQC about the future hospital. “I’m really excited about some of the technology we’ll be offering at our hospital – it’s state-of-the-art and second to none in the area,” said Dr. Park. He described the body weight supported gait device, which allows for control of the gait cycle and dynamically adjusts to the patients’ abilities. “For patients that we couldn’t get up and walking – we had to wait for them to get stronger – we can [use this device to] get them up immediately and the device will adjust to their abilities, so they can start practicing walking and getting stronger.”

Dr. Park also described the difference between inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities: “At a rehabilitation hospital like ours, you’ll be getting three hours of therapy a day for five days a week minimum – there is no such minimum standard at a nursing facility. Other differences include the expertise and frequency of your physician visits. At our rehab hospital, you’ll be cared for and treated by a doctor who has specialized experience, expertise and training in rehab. There is no such requirement at a nursing facility.” Learn more about the future hospital and the services that will be offered on KWQC News.
