Hospital Happenings

Victor Brown

Victor Brown, a 34-year-old cerebral palsy patient, came to Encompass Health with a goal of walking again. It wasn’t until he was admitted that his physician suggested speech therapy for cognitive work.

Here, Victor is pictured with his speech therapist Pamela K. Petray MA-SLP/CCC. Pamela says that speech therapy is not just for treating swallowing and speech deficiencies, but it is also crucial for cognitive deficits that many patients have.

She calls this aspect of speech therapy “brain fitness.”. "We work out our physical bodies, why wouldn’t we work out our brain?” Victor will be sent home with a home program and online resources to continue to build on the progress he's made not only in walking but also with his cognitive skills.
