In partnership with local Jewish faith organizations, Encompass Health of Toms River offers trainings to educate staff on the unique elements of the Jewish faith and shared advice for being culturally welcoming and sensitive to patients’ needs and preferences.

Encompass Health of Toms River recently hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new kosher pantry, which was led by Rabbi Yehudah Kaszirer and included leaders from Towne Nursing and other community leaders.

Rabbi Kaszirer shared, “We are honored to team up with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River to ensure that the community feels embraced and has access to the basic Jewish necessities. The process of healing is always more successful when one’s cultural needs are being met as well. Bikur Cholim is always here to support Encompass Health in the amazing work that they do.”

“Having access to kosher food is especially important to the Jewish community, particularly during Sabbath. Our hospital recognized these needs and has been supported by Bikur Cholim to help provide food and supplies, such as battery operated candles and prayer books, all of which are essential to this community,” said Meghan Miick, Quality and Risk Coordinator for Encompass Health of Toms River. “It is important that our patients and their family members focus on their rehabilitation, and we hope this space provides comfort to our Jewish community aiding in their ability to heal.”
