At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. We serve the greater Austin area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

The Stroke Center of Excellence award is part of Encompass Health’s internal recognition program to highlight accomplishments within our rehabilitation hospitals. It is achieved through a dedication, hard work and superior patient outcomes. To meet strict certification criteria, hospitals must provide high quality services, and the program must meet The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and hold The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification in Stroke Rehabilitation to qualify.

Chief Executive Officer
Lauren Suarez, chief executive officer, is a healthcare executive with 10 years of experience in leading teams to achieve operational excellence and superior patient outcomes. She previously held hospital CEO roles for several national post-acute care companies. Lauren earned her MPH in healthcare management from Emory University as well as a bachelor’s degree in health science from the University of Florida. Lauren’s commitment is to continue to have Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin be the best place for patients to be cared for and employees to work.
Medical Director
Laura Gray, M.D., board certified physiatrist and medical director of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin since 2015, has been serving the rehabilitation community for more than 30 years. Dr. Gray received her undergraduate training at the University of Texas at Austin, medical school in Galveston Texas at the University and completed her residency training at Stanford University Medical Center.
Dr. Gray is an independent private practice physician.
Controller
Kathy has more than 20 years of accounting and management experience. She has spent the past 12 years in healthcare, having worked in hospice, home health and inpatient rehabilitation settings. She joined Encompass Health in 2015 at the Central Business Office in Brooksville, Fla. and transferred to the South Austin rehabilitation hospital in May 2016. Kathy holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Saint Leo University in Fla.
Director of Pharmacy
Rabih is the director of pharmacy at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin. He is the medication therapy expert responsible for the overall clinical, operational, staffing and inventory functions of the pharmacy department and its professional growth within the hospital. Rabih received his Bachelor of Science in health sciences from the American University of Beirut. He attended the pharmacy school at the Lebanese American University where he received his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy, followed by a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2002. Rabih is a licensed pharmacist registered in multiple states and his experience spans across hospital, community and corporate pharmacy operation settings. For most of his career he has held pharmacy leadership roles and has extensive experience as a clinical, compounding, immunizing and administrative pharmacist. He is passionate about patient care, as well as the rise of technology in healthcare and its application to pharmacy.
Director of Facilities Management
Derrick has more than 15 years of construction and facilities management experience. He joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin in April 2021. Prior to this, he worked in acute care hospitals, assisted living and behavioral health facilities. Derrick is a former fire fighter and has a strong understanding of all life safety systems. Derrick is passionate about maintaining the safest and cleanest environment for everyone that comes into our building.
Chief Nursing Officer
Clarlin is the chief nursing officer at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin. She is a strong nurse leader with almost 10 years of nursing experience. Her diverse background ranges from acute care, infection prevention, employee health, quality and rehabilitation. Clarlin holds two bachelor’s degrees-- a bachelor’s degree in biology from the Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in nursing with a focus on executive leadership from Chamberlain University. Clarlin’s passion for rehabilitation began in 2014 as a bedside nurse. Through the years Clarlin has grown her career and leadership abilities as house supervisor then nurse manager and ultimately chief nursing officer. Her passion for the nursing profession grew during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clarlin strives to maintain quality patient outcomes, employee engagement and patient satisfaction.
Patient Assessment Standards Coordinator
Marci began her career in healthcare in 2012 as a certified occupational therapy assistant working in inpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing settings. She brings her clinical knowledge and problem-solving skills gained as a working therapist to the role of PASC. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in management from Texas A&M University and associate degree in occupational therapy assistant from Austin Community College. She holds Neuro-IFRAH and LSVT Big certifications and has a passion for working with neurological patients.
Director of Therapy Operations
Liz has worked at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin since 2009 as a speech therapist and team lead. She is passionate about therapy, ensuring the highest outcomes in our patients and promoting growth in her therapists. Liz oversees many of the disease-specific specialty programs, including stroke and oncology. She is a preceptor for new directors and a member of the National Therapy Leadership Board. Liz received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist.
Director of Quality & Risk
Amelia began her career in healthcare in 2008 as a speech-language pathologist. For more than a decade, Amelia provided therapy services to adult and geriatric patients in a wide variety of settings, including skilled nursing, assisted living and post-acute brain injury rehabilitation before transitioning to a career in quality improvement. She joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Austin in 2022 as the director of quality & risk management. Amelia graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders. She also earned a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Born and raised in Austin, Amelia is thrilled to be able to serve the rehabilitative needs of her fellow Austinites and to give back to the community she loves so dearly.
Director of Case Management
Lauren began her healthcare career 10 years ago as a certified occupational therapy assistant. She has worked in multiple states across the country, in various settings including inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, long-term acute care hospitals and home health. Lauren started with Encompass Health in 2015 and transitioned to case management in 2017. She received her certification in case management in 2019. Lauren’s background in therapy allows her to bring an unique perspective to the discharge process which cultivates a successful interdisciplinary approach.
