At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Serving the greater Cincinnati area, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain and spinal cord injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Hospital happenings

Late last year, Devon Spivey suffered a rare heart condition, which resulted in a monthlong ICU stay and the amputation of both legs. During his recovery process, Devon participated in inpatient rehabilitation at Encompass Health Cincinnati where part of his therapy included learning to walk again.

Jacob Rose was working full time and majoring in business at a local university when he was involved in a severe motor vehicle accident and suffered a spinal fracture that left him unable to move his legs. After three weeks, he was starting to regain feeling back in his feet and toes, and was able to dress and transfer himself independently to his wheelchair. He ecstatically rang the independence bell on discharge day, and wheeled out to his bright future ahead!

Devon Spivey faced the challenges of limb loss with determination after he was admitted to a hospital after feeling short of breath and passing out. Devon credits his Encompass Health team and his prosthetic team at RJ Rosenberg for helping him recover after such a traumatic event. Today, Devon walks with ease on his two prosthetic legs and works full time as a mechanical engineer. He has even taken up sled hockey!

Encompass Health employees at both the Drake and Norwood locations in Cincinnati partnered with the Salvation Army to sponsor an Angel Tree. Fifty children in the community received gifts from their wish lists. Over 70 bags of toys, clothing and bedding were collected and donated.

Rob Murphy

Chief Executive Officer

Rob joins the team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati with more than 20 years of healthcare experience.

Rob joins the team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati with more than 20 years of healthcare experience. He spent his first 16 years with one of Louisville, Kentucky’s largest healthcare systems. Rob began his career in patient care, as a nuclear medicine technologist and progressed to become the leader of multiple ambulatory care centers and an 80-bed community hospital. Rob joined Studer Group in 2015, where he provided leadership development and implementing best practices to achieve desired results in areas including medical staff and employee engagement, patient experience, alignment and accountability, quality outcomes and operating efficiency. Rob is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and takes great pride in serving his industry.

Ashok Poluri, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Poluri joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati as the medical director in 2016.

Dr. Poluri joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati as the medical director in 2016. Previously, he served as the medical director at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Kentucky. He is board-certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the American Board of Pain Medicine. Dr. Poluri completed his medical doctorate at Gandhi Medical College in India, his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Stony Brook University, his internship at Montefiore Medical Center and his interventional pain fellowship at the National Pain Institute in Florida.

Dr. Poluri is an independent private practice physician.

Dawn Bouman, Ph.D

Program Director for Neuropsychology

Dr. Bouman received a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, with emphasis in rehabilitation and neuropsychology.

Dr. Bouman received a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, with emphasis in rehabilitation and neuropsychology. She currently provides inpatient and outpatient psychotherapy, adjustment counseling, and patient/family education to people with a variety of disabilities and illnesses, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, amputation, organ transplant, severe medical deconditioning, cancer, and other medical problems. In addition to leadership at HealthSouth, she also serves as Division Director for Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation Psychology in University of Cincinnati’s Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine. She reviews for Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation and has co-authored an invited chapter in The Handbook of Rehabilitation Psychology. Dr. Bouman is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Rehabilitation Psychology division of APA.

Dr. Bouman is an independent private practice physician.

He has been with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati for 11 years and currently serves as the Director of Plant Operations and Safety Officer at Encompass Health Cincinnati.

Deana Cox, MHA, BSN, RN is the director of quality and risk for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati.

Deana Cox, MHA, BSN, RN is the director of quality and risk for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati. Over the past 20 years, she has held roles in nursing, quality and risk as well as admissions. She has experience in a variety of healthcare settings including physical medicine and rehabilitation, hospice, emergency medicine, gastroenterology and managed care. Deana earned two associate degrees in nursing from Maysville Community & Technical College and went on to achieve her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Northern Kentucky University before earning a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Grand Canyon University.

Erica Duncan serves as the director of case management for both Encompass Health Cincinnati hospital locations. Prior to joining Encompass Health in December 2018, she served as care management supervisor and medical social worker for Trihealth, Inc. She received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Southern California – Los Angeles, a master’s degree in industrial-organizational psychology from Northern Kentucky University and a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Kentucky. Erica is a licensed social worker in the state of Ohio.

Joe was named director of pharmacy in September 2013.

Joe was named director of pharmacy in September 2013. Before coming to Encompass Health he had served in a variety of roles including over 15 years as a clinical hospital pharmacist, most recently with Bethesda North Hospital and over 12 years as a clinical home infusion pharmacist with Coram Healthcare, the nation’s largest home infusion company. Joe obtained his pharmacy degree from the University of Cincinnati and also hold a Nuclear Pharmacy Certificate from the University of Southern California.

Ellie serves as the director of case management for both Encompass Health Rehabilitation of Cincinnati locations and has been with the organization since 2019. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Ellie practiced as a social worker for more than 10 years in both hospital and community settings, including acute care, pediatric case management, adult and child developmental disability services and grant management. She holds a master's degree in social work from The Ohio State University.

Julie Young serves as the business development director for both locations of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati.

Julie Young serves as the business development director for both locations of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati. She has more than 35 years of healthcare experience with more than 20 of those being in sales and marketing roles. Prior to returning to Encompass Health Cincinnati, where she held her current role from 2002-2008, Julie worked in a business development role for a home health and hospice organization. She achieved her RN diploma from the Community Hospital School of Nursing then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and social sciences at the College of Mount St. Joseph before receiving her master’s degree of education in community counseling from Xavier University.
