At Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Newburgh, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

The Warrick County Humane Society brought several dogs to parade around and provide our patients and staff with some much needed love and attention.

To end National Rehabilitation Awareness Week with a bang, we celebrated with a Kona Ice truck and dunking booth! Our employees enjoyed refreshing icees in the afternoon and were invited to make a donation to the Brain Injury Adventure Camp in exchange for softballs to knock our CEO, Blake Bunner, into chilly water at the dunking booth. Together, we raised $100 and Blake did not stay dry for long!

Blake Bunner
BLAKE BUNNER

Chief Executive Officer

Blake has been with Encompass Health since 2009 and has served in other senior leadership roles for the company.
Blake Bunner is the CEO at Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in Evansville, Ind.. Blake has been with Encompass Health since 2009 and has served in other senior leadership roles for the company. Prior to Encompass Health, Blake served as chief operating officer for a multi-state nurse staffing firm. He is a three-term elected official and current president for a county fiscal body which set budgets and manages tax incentives. Blake currently serves as the president of a non-profit transportation company serving seniors and has been a board member of that organization since 2006. He is actively involved in youth sports and is the director of a church-based sports program. Blake earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Kentucky University and a master’s degree in business administration from Western Governor’s University Indiana.

Executive Medical Director

Dr. Adeel is a fellowship trained and board-certified rehabilitation physician who was named associate medical director in March 2016.

Dr. Adeel is a fellowship trained and board-certified rehabilitation physician who was named associate medical director in March 2016. He brings with him 10 years of experience in his field. Most recently, he practiced at Staten Island University Hospital in New York where he was a clinical instructor in the rehabilitation medicine residency program. Dr. Adeel graduated from Kakatiya Medical College in Warrangal, AP, India in 1992.

Dr. Adeel is an independent private practice physician.

Associate Medical Director

Dr. Bashar Mourad is the associate medical director at Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital.

Dr. Bashar Mourad is the associate medical director at Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Mourad is certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He attended medical school at Damascus University in Syria and completed his residency at Ravenswood Hospital Medical Center in Chicago, and his fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Previously, he has been employed by Ohio Valley Nephrology Associates and has been affiliated with Baptist Health and Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

Dr. Mourad is an independent private practice physician.

VIJAY BHASIN, M.D.

Program Director of Internal Medicine

Dr. Bhasin has been with Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital since July of 2011.

Dr. Bhasin is the program director of internal medicine. He graduated from the Government College Punjabi University Patiala in 1990. He performed clinical research at General Hospital in San Francisco, California. Dr. Bhasin moved to the United States in 1995 and relocated to Evansville in 2003 where he currently has a private practice. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2004 with a nephrology subspecialty.

Dr. Bhasin is an independent private practice physician.

Lisa joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in January 2019 as the associate chief nursing officer.

Lisa joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in January 2019 as the associate chief nursing officer. She was promoted to chief nursing officer in November 2019 and brings over 11 years of nursing experience to the hospital. Lisa graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She earned a master’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Phoenix and is a certified family nurse practitioner.

Wendy joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital as the Director of Human Resources in May 2017.

Wendy joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital as the Director of Human Resources in May 2017. Previously, she worked for several years in behavioral healthcare in a variety of roles including patient care, human resources and quality. Wendy earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern Indiana and a master’s degree in business administration from Ball State. She serves on the board of directors for the Evansville Human Resources Association and the Warrick Humane Society.

Director of Therapy Operations

Brett has been employed with Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital since 1996.

Brett has been a member of the Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital since 1996. He currently serves as the director of therapy operations overseeing physical, occupational and speech language therapies. He has served on various local and national boards over his career. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Brett graduated from the University of Evansville with a master’s degree in physical therapy.

Rhonda Ramsey joined the Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital team in December of 2015.

Rhonda Ramsey joined the Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital team in December of 2015. Prior to Encompass Health, Rhonda served on the finance team of a 400+ bed acute care hospital. She brings 25 years of healthcare finance experience to her role. She serves as treasurer on the South Spencer Scholarship Foundation. Rhonda earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from University of Southern Indiana.

Director of Quality/Risk

Anita joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in 2017 as the director of quality and risk.

Anita Shaw joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in 2017. She brings multiple years of healthcare administration experience to her role. Anita served previously as the director of case management and director of quality/risk at Encompass Health Deaconess. She is a licensed clinical social worker, certified case manager and certified professional in healthcare risk management.

Anita serves the community by participating on the human rights committee for Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and is the chairperson for human rights at Ireland Behavioral Health Services.

Lauren has been with Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital since 2011. Lauren started her career at Encompass Health Deaconess as a physical therapist assistant and transitioned into the physical therapy team lead role in 2014. In 2018, she transitioned into the business development director role. She received her associate and bachelor’s degrees from The University of Evansville and a master’s of health administration from the University of Southern Indiana.

Doug joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in November 2010.

Doug joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in November 2010. He has worked in acute care, long-term acute care, retail pharmacy and has done consulting work for skilled nursing facilities. Doug is an associate professor for Purdue, Butler and SIUE schools of Pharmacy. He graduated with a Doctorate in Pharmacy degree from Butler University and possesses additional business major education from the University of Southern Indiana.
