At Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Newburgh, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Executive Medical Director
Dr. Adeel is a fellowship trained and board-certified rehabilitation physician who was named associate medical director in March 2016. He brings with him 10 years of experience in his field. Most recently, he practiced at Staten Island University Hospital in New York where he was a clinical instructor in the rehabilitation medicine residency program. Dr. Adeel graduated from Kakatiya Medical College in Warrangal, AP, India in 1992.
Dr. Adeel is an independent private practice physician.
Program Director of Internal Medicine
Dr. Bhasin is the program director of internal medicine. He graduated from the Government College Punjabi University Patiala in 1990. He performed clinical research at General Hospital in San Francisco, California. Dr. Bhasin moved to the United States in 1995 and relocated to Evansville in 2003 where he currently has a private practice. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2004 with a nephrology subspecialty.
Dr. Bhasin is an independent private practice physician.
Medical Director
Dr. Deepthi Cull is a board certified physician in the specialty of physical medicine & rehabilitation with over 20 years of clinical experience, and work in her specialty since 2001. She joined Encompass Health in 2019 as associate medical director/director of neurorehabilitation. Dr. Cull completed her intern year at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, Illinois; and residency as chief resident at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital in Wheaton, Illinois. She is an author, editor, editorial board leader, to articles, newsletters, book chapters, and a public speaker in communities across the country. She served the largest professional organization in her specialty, the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as a council chair and representative to the American Medical Association. She is the first recipient of "Outstanding Council Service Award, 2010" and recognized as "Outstanding International Medical Graduate".
Dr. Cull is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Case Management
Cathy was promoted to director of case management in 2014. She has been with Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth since 2012 as a case manager. She graduated from the Deaconess School of Nursing and has her certification in case management. Cathy has an extensive background with commercial insurance pre-certification.
Chief Nursing Officer
Lisa joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital, formerly HealthSouth, in January 2019 as the associate chief nursing officer. She was promoted to chief nursing officer in November 2019 and brings over 11 years of nursing experience to the hospital. Lisa graduated from the University of Southern Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She earned a master’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in health administration from the University of Phoenix and is a certified family nurse practitioner.
Human Resources Director
Wendy joined Encompass Health Deaconess, formerly HealthSouth Deaconess as the Director of Human Resources in May 2017. Previously, she worked for several years in behavioral healthcare in a variety of roles including patient care, human resources and quality. Wendy earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern Indiana and a master’s degree in business administration from Ball State. She serves on the board of directors for the Evansville Human Resources Association and the Warrick Humane Society.
Director of Therapy Operations
Brett has been a member of the Encompass Health team, formerly Healthsouth, since 1996. He currently serves as the director of therapy operations overseeing physical, occupational and speech language therapies. He has served on various local and national boards over his career. A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Brett graduated from the University of Evansville with a master’s degree in physical therapy.
Controller
Rhonda Ramsey joined the Encompass Health Deaconess, formerly HealthSouth Deaconess team in December of 2015. Prior to Encompass Health, Rhonda served on the finance team of a 400+ bed acute care hospital. She brings 25 years of healthcare finance experience to her role. She serves as treasurer on the South Spencer Scholarship Foundation. Rhonda earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from University of Southern Indiana.
Director of Quality/Risk
Anita Shaw joined Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth Deaconess in 2017. She brings multiple years of healthcare administration experience to her role. Anita served previously as the director of case management and director of quality/risk at Encompass Health Deaconess. She is a licensed clinical social worker, certified case manager and certified professional in healthcare risk management.
Anita serves the community by participating on the human rights committee for Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center and is the chairperson for human rights at Ireland Behavioral Health Services.
Director of Plant Operations
Steve joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in March 2008. He previously was employed by Owensboro Medical Health System for 13 years. Steve holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Western Kentucky University.
Business Development Director
Lauren has been with Encompass Health Deaconess, formerly HealthSouth Deaconess, since 2011. Prior to transitioning into the business development director role in 2018, Lauren served as a physical therapy assistant then a therapy assistant team lead in 2014. She received her associate and bachelor’s degrees from The University of Evansville and a her master’s of health administration from the University of Southern Indiana. In addition, she is an active member of Therapy Dogs International with her Golden Retriever therapy dog, Lucy.
Director of Pharmacy
Doug joined Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in November 2010. He has worked in acute care, long-term acute care, retail pharmacy and has done consulting work for skilled nursing facilities. Doug is an associate professor for Purdue, Butler and SIUE schools of Pharmacy. He graduated with a Doctorate in Pharmacy degree from Butler University and possesses additional business major education from the University of Southern Indiana.
