Boyd is the chief executive officer of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene and has worked for Encompass Health since 2010. Originally from Ohio, he has served in various leadership roles in home health, inpatient and outpatient settings. Prior to joining the Encompass Health Abilene team, Boyd worked as the CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Wichita Falls and as an associate administrator in the Developing Future CEO program at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Institute of Tucson. Boyd holds a bachelor’s degree in human movement and development from Bowling Green State University, a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Findlay, and a master’s degree in health administration from Ohio University.

Monica H. Wichner, D.O. is a board certified physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist. She earned her medical degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic medicine. She completed her residency at Rush St. Luke’s Presbyterian Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Wichner is an independent private practice physician.

Kayla joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene in March 2024 as the director of quality and risk. She has nearly 20 years of nursing experience with a career dedicated towards quality of care and improving patient outcomes. Kayla has a board certification in nursing leadership and brings 12 years of nursing administration experience. Kayla obtained her master’s degree in nursing administration from University of Texas at Arlington. In her spare time, she enjoys anything outdoors and spending time with her children.

Kelly joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene in 2023 as chief nursing officer. She has 18 years of nursing experience with a dedicated career focus on rehabilitation nursing and more than 12 years of nursing administration experience in various rehabilitation settings. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) and Certified Emergency Nurse. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University where she is completing her master’s degree practicum in nursing executive leadership.

Robert brings more than 25 years of professional experience ranging from acute and long-term care facilities to operating as a master inspector for Lockheed Martin for many years. Proficient in both local and state agency guidelines, Robert has played a major role in leading companies to successful Joint Commission accreditations. Robert has been a resident in the Abilene area for more than 42 years and has made numerous contributions throughout the community.

Vongai serves as the director of pharmacy at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene and joined the team in November 2017. She earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Texas. Vongai has more than 15 years of pharmacy practice experience varying among manufacturing, community, hospital and inpatient rehabilitation. Vongai is passionate about her profession and strives for excellent patient outcomes through safe medication management.

Krissy joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene in November 2021. Originally from California, she has 18 years of administrative healthcare experience which include skilled nursing, hospice and inpatient rehabilitation. She is a strong believer in the power of positive thinking in the workplace and strives to bring out the best in her co-workers. In her spare time, Krissy enjoys spending time with her family and dogs.

Cyndi joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene in 2021. She holds a bachelor's degree in human resource management. Cyndi is a Texas native with more than 15 years of combined experience in human resources, accounting, payroll and office management. She is focused on bringing out the best in her employees and fostering a positive work environment. In her spare time, Cyndi enjoys spending time with her family and being outdoors.

Luke began his role as the director of therapy operation in January of 2017. Luke earned his doctorate degree in physical therapy from Hardin-Simmons University, as well as his bachelor's degree in biology. Luke has a wide array of physical therapy experience in settings such as inpatient rehabilitation, home health, and long term care. Luke strives to promote a therapy community that utilizes quality care and evidenced-based techniques to improve patient outcomes.

Justin became a controller for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Abilene in September 2023. He brings more than six years of financial management experience to the team with a background in multiple industries including finance, land development, forestry, oil & gas logistics and software & technology. He graduated from Tarleton State University with a bachelor’s degree in business and accounting.

Shelby began her career with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in 2016 as a marketing liaison in Midland, Texas. She was quickly promoted to senior liaison in Midland and later to business development director in Abilene. She graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in biology and has fifteen years of marketing experience in healthcare including pharmaceutical sales, home health and hospice. She has a true passion for sales and marketing as well as helping the community.
