Late last year, Devon Spivey suffered a rare heart condition, which led to him spending more than a month in the ICU and eventually amputations of both legs. During his recovery process, Devon participated in inpatient rehabilitation at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cincinnati where part of his therapy included learning to walk again.

Jacob Rose was working full time and majoring in business at a local university when he was involved in a severe motor vehicle accident and suffered a spinal fracture that left him unable to move his legs. After three weeks, he was starting to regain feeling back in his feet and toes, and was able to dress and transfer himself independently to his wheelchair. He ecstatically rang the independence bell on discharge day, and wheeled out to his bright future ahead!

Devon Spivey faced the challenges of limb loss with determination after he was admitted to a hospital after feeling short of breath and passing out. Devon credits his Encompass Health team and his prosthetic team at RJ Rosenberg for helping him recover after such a traumatic event. Today, Devon walks with ease on his two prosthetic legs and works full time as a mechanical engineer. He has even taken up sled hockey!

Encompass Health employees at both the Drake and Norwood locations in Cincinnati partnered with the Salvation Army to sponsor an Angel Tree. Fifty children in the community received gifts from their wish lists. Over 70 bags of toys, clothing and bedding were collected and donated.
