Shawn Kiser patient success story
01/15/20
A family boat cruise on Lake Murray turned deadly when the Kiser’s boat was struck by another. Shawn Kiser lost her husband in the accident and almost lost her life due to the loss of blood from a severed leg. However, Shawn’s daughter Morgan quickly jumped into action and created a tourniquet with her dress to save her mother’s life. Shawn’s life was now filled with many challenges, but the team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Columbia helped ease the burden of helping her walk again with her new prosthetic leg. During two weeks of inpatient rehabilitation at the hospital, Shawn made great strides. She took her first steps, and the family has also started a new initiative called “Safe The Lake” to increase boating safety and education statewide.
