At Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Homewood and serving the greater Birmingham area, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Hospital happenings

Have you experienced a stroke or brain injury resulting in weakness? Would you be willing to serve as a practicum participant in a neurodevelopmental education course? The course is being held at Encompass Health Lakeshore April 27-May 8 for licensed physical and occupational therapists. Part of their training includes hands on application of the skills they learn. Practicum sessions are a minimum of 1.5 hours, and sessions are offered in mornings and afternoons. If you are interested in participating, contact Kristina Schroder at 205-761-0750.

Michael Bartell, MPH, FACHE

Area Chief Executive Officer

In 2021, Michael was named area CEO of Encompass Health Lakeshore and Encompass Health of Shelby County.

In 2021, Michael was named area CEO of Encompass Health Lakeshore and Encompass Health of Shelby County. He has served as Encompass Health Lakeshore’s CEO since July 2018. He previously served as CEO of Encompass Health’s hospital in Phenix City, Alabama, and as the associate administrator at the Company’s hospital in Sarasota, Florida. He also has experience serving as a director of a product line and a vice president of marketing and business development in acute care hospitals in California. Michael received a master’s degree in public health specializing in health administration from Loma Linda University and a bachelor’s degree in health science from Fresno Pacific University. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.

Michael A. Rosemore, D.O.

Medical Director

Dr. Rosemore joined the medical staff of Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in March 2003.

Dr. Rosemore joined the medical staff of Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in March 2003. He served as interim medical director starting July 2013 and was named permanent medical director in June 2014. Dr. Rosemore completed his undergraduate education at the University of South Alabama and in 1986 he earned his doctorate at Nova Southeastern Osteopathic Medical School. He completed his family medicine residency at University of Alabama Hospital in 1989 as chief resident. He has been an active faculty member as assistant clinical professor and has been the primary investigator in over 200 clinical trials. Dr. Rosemore was medical director of the inpatient rehabilitation program at HealthSouth Medical Center from 1997-2003.

Dr. Rosemore is an independent private practice physician.

April began her career at Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in 2002, serving as the hospital’s nurse manager.

April has over 19 years of experience in acute care and rehabilitation nursing with her certification as a rehabilitation nurse. She currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Area Director of Pharmacy

Stephanie began her career with Encompass Health in 2016.
Stephanie began her career with Encompass Health in 2016. She has served in the role of director of pharmacy since February of 2020. She has over 12 years of pharmacy experience, starting as pharmacy technician before earning her bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Auburn University. She has practiced for 5 years as a licensed pharmacist with 4 of those in a hospital setting.

Director, Health Information Management (HIM)

Jacki has more than 25 years of experience in health information management and compliance.

Jacki originally joined Encompass Health in 2007 as director of health information management services for Regional Rehabilitation Hospital in Phenix City, Ala.. She transferred to Lakeshore in 2018.  She has more than twenty-five years of experience in health information management and compliance. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Jacki served as the HIM director for Quillen Rehabilitation Center, Hughston Sports Medicine Hospital and Summit Hospital. She obtained her degree from East Tennessee State University and she is RHIT certified through the AHIMA. In addition to her role as director of HIM, Jacki also serves as the HIPAA officer and the HIM advisor for the South Central Region of Encompass Health.

Director of Therapy Operations

Shannon graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree and a certificate in occupational therapy.
Shannon graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree and a certificate in occupational therapy. She has over 29 years of experience in adult rehabilitation and has completed NEURO-IFRAH certification for the treatment and management of adults with hemiplegia from a stroke or brain injury. Shannon joined Encompass Health Lakeshore, formerly HealthSouth, in 1998. She held staff and leadership positions as senior occupational therapist and therapy manager before transitioning to Encompass Health Shelby County in April 2020 as DTO.

Area Business Development Director

Tamika re-joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation as the area business development director in 2022.

Tamika became the area business development director for Encompass Health in 2022. She has 20 years of healthcare experience including nursing and marketing. Her nursing experience includes trauma and burn intensive care, nurse coordinator for otolaryngology and care management for critically-ill ventilated population while also serving in a leadership role. Tamika earned her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing.

Jimmy was named director of plant operations in 2010.

Jimmy began his career at Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in 1989 and was named director of plant operations in 2010. He has more than 26 years experience as an electrician and an extensive background in maintenance, building automation, and technical and hazardous waste.

Miranda Robertson

Director of Quality & Risk

Miranda first joined Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in 2014 as a case manager.

Miranda is a 2011 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in social work and is a licensed social worker. She joined Lakeshore in 2014 as a case manager and achieved her case management certification in 2015. In 2018 Miranda was promoted to the director of case management. Before joining Encompass Health Lakeshore, Miranda worked for the Shelby County Department of Human Resources in Adult and Child Protective Services.
