Area Chief Executive Officer
Mat joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown in July of 2014 after having most recently served as chief executive officer for another hospital company in Pennsylvania. He has more than 17 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience and is an active member of various civic and healthcare related organizations, including serving as a Board Member of both the American Heart/Stroke Association and Arthritis Foundation Mat received his bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Tennessee and his master's of healthcare administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Medical Director
Dr. Ashish Khandelwal started his career as attending physician at Muroe Regional Medical Center and Ocala Regional Medical Center Ocala, Fla. in 2006. He joined as an attending physician at Christiana Care Hospital Newark DE in 2010 till present. Dr. Khandewal completed an internal medicine residency program at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY Weil Medical College, Cornell University Affiliate in 2006. Dr. Khandelwal received his medical degree from Dr S N Medical College, Jodhpur India in 1998. He has years of experience as an attending at CardioVascular and Joint Center Program at Munroe Regional and Ocala Regional Medical Center at Florida and Neurology, Neurosurgery Unit and Joint Center at Christiana Care Hospital which provides him with in depth knowledge of patients requiring acute inpatient rehabilitation care. Dr. Khandelwal has held leadership positions at CCHS leading interdisciplinary teams to increase patient satisfaction and quality outcomes. His leadership is integral to Cokesbury Village in Hockessin, DE where he provides medical directorship services.
Dr. Khandelwal is an independent private practice physician.
Chief Nursing Officer
Becky started her career with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown as a staff nurse when the hospital opened in December 2014. She moved to charge nurse before being promoted to her current position of chief nursing officer. Her experience includes working in areas of cardiac and acute care. She achieved her associate's degree in nursing from Delaware Technical and Community College and is currently pursuing her bachelor's degree in nursing at Wilmington University in Dover.
Director of Case Management
Marc joined Encompass Health in November 2019. He brings more than 10 years of healthcare experience and has worked in various medical settings from acute care hospitals, nursing homes, hospice and home healthcare agencies. Marc received a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Delaware State University and a master’s degree in social work from Howard University. He is currently completing his clinical doctorate in social work from the University of Pennsylvania.
Director of Therapy Operations
Lauren joined Encompass Health in March 2020. She has 12 years of experience caring for patients as a physical therapist, with experience in both inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient sports and orthopedics. Most recently, she was a partner and site manager for an outpatient company based in Delaware. She is passionate about mentoring and guiding the careers of newer clinicians in order to provide evidenced based care and allow for the best clinical outcomes. She is a board certified in both orthopedics and sports and holds a doctorate degree in physical therapy from University of Delaware, currently ranked as the top physical therapy program in the United States.
Director of Pharmacy
Darrall has been with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown since 2010. He has more than 15 years of healthcare experience including: inpatient rehabilitation, community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy in small community and university medical centers, pharmaceutical research, and medical writing. Darrall earned his doctor of pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, PA. His professional interests include drug information, physical medicine and rehabilitation, nutrition, and family medicine. His passion is to provide the highest level of pharmaceutical care to his patients and the pursuit of life-long learning.
Senior Human Resources Director
Anitra Jones has worked in human resources and recruiting for 13 years. Her professional experience includes policy-planning, management, personnel development, benefits and recruitment. Anitra has demonstrated experience in addressing and implementing strategic plans for talent acquisition, retention and succession planning. She has a special focus on: OSHA reporting, organization re-engineering, team building, presentation and public speaking, training and mentoring, employee relations and customer relationship management. Anitra holds her Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln University, Pa., in addition to various HR certifications.
Facilities Management Director
Kevin joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown in December 2014. Most recently he served as the director of support services in an acute care hospital and brings extensive knowledge in facility and safety management to the Encompass Health Middletown. Kevin has more than 30 years in health care experience.
Controller
Lisa joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown in November 2014, bringing with her more than 34 years of demonstrated success in the areas of healthcare financial operations. She is the controller for the Middletown, Delaware, York and Pennsylvania hospitals. Previously, she was the associate vice president/CFO for the home-and-community-based services division of a nationally recognized regional health system and has served in various managerial roles for leading healthcare organizations. Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Albright College.
Business Development Director
Christie Watlington joined Encompass Health as a clinical nurse liaison in 2014 at the newly opened Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Middletown. She was promoted to senior liaison in 2016 where she worked closely with the leadership team. In 2021 she was promoted to business development director. Christie has extensive experience in the areas of orthopedic, neurological and trauma-related injuries after having spent 14 years as a registered nurse in a level one trauma center. Her community involvement includes volunteering and participating in many groups, organizations and schools in the Middletown area. She also serves on the committee for fundraising efforts to support the American Heart Association of Delaware. Christie earned her nursing degree at Delaware Technical and Community College in 2000.
