At Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in San Angelo, we are an inpatient rehabilitation hospital that provides inpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Tracie Watkins serves as CEO of Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital. A native of San Angelo, Texas, Tracie held nurse and nurse manager roles at Shannon Health for 12 years. Then, in September 2014, she worked as the chief nursing officer at Encompass Health’s hospital in Midland before joining Encompass Health’s leadership team in Lubbock, which opened their new hospital in May 2019. A nurse with 18 total years of leadership experience, she completed her associate degree and bachelor’s degree of science in nursing through Angelo State University. She has also achieved her master’s degree in business administration. Tracie looks forward to maintaining a welcoming hospital environment for patients and creating a workplace culture that makes employees proud to come to work every day.
Dedicated to the health and wellbeing of her patients, Dr. Tanya S. Harris holds triple board certifications in physical medicine & rehabilitation, electrodiagnostic medicine and brain injury medicine. After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, Dr. Harris went on to be the youngest graduate of her class at Philadelphia's Temple University School of Medicine. She also finished at the top of her residency at the University of Kentucky before starting her own rehabilitation practice. Drawn to neurorehabilitation, she then had the privilege of serving as TBI/polytrauma director for a major veterans' hospital where she helped bolster function and quality of life among combat veterans. In 2018, she was recruited as national medical director/chief medical officer for New Zealand’s largest brain injury and stroke rehabilitation provider. She has enjoyed teaching residents and furthering standards of care from the local to the international level. She is especially excited for the opportunity to promote care as medical director at the opening Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital in her new home of San Angelo, Texas.
Dr. Harris is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Facilities Management
Nick serves as the director of facilities for Encompass Health’s Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital. He has more than 23 years of maintenance and leadership experience, with the last four serving in maintenance and facilities management in the medical field. A 20 year veteran of the United States Navy, he learned the value of teamwork and dedication to accomplish any goal and honorably retired in 2017. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration/management from Columbia College of Missouri and is currently working toward his MBA. Nick and the team are focused on providing a safe, first class environment for patients, employees and visitors.
Caitlin joined Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital in October 2020. A San Angelo native, she graduated from Angelo State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and then went on to receive her master’s degree in accounting from Texas A&M University at Commerce. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Caitlin gained valuable experience at Shannon South, formerly known as Community Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. Caitlin oversees the financial operations of the hospital and provides support to leadership by equipping them with the necessary information and tools needed.
Director of Therapy Operations
Regina, a native of San Angelo, joined Encompass Health in October 2020 as director of therapy operations. She has more than 15 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience with the former Shannon Rehabilitation Center treating patients with varying diagnoses including neurologic, orthopedic, cardiopulmonary and amputation amongst others. Regina earned her master’s degree in physical therapy from Angelo State University in 2005 and a doctorate in neurologic physical therapy from the Neurorecovery Institute in 2017. She is a board-certified neurologic specialist with the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Regina and her team seek to provide high-quality and compassionate care for the people of west Texas.
Chief Nursing Officer
Anissa Johnson serves as the chief nursing officer at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health. Prior to joining the Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital team, she served as a nurse manager at Encompass Health’s hospital in Lubbock, South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital. She has a passion for patient advocacy and excellence in the delivery of patient care. Starting her nursing career as a licensed vocational nurse in 1996, her nursing journey has given her the opportunity to work in a variety of acute care settings. Some of the positions she has held are primary stroke center coordinator, house supervisor and patient placement coordinator at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Anissa earned her master’s degree in nursing from Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.
Director of Case Management
Amanda brings with her more than 23 years of clinical experience with a background in nursing and case management. She is a west Texas native and a 1999 graduate from Angelo State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Amanda is excited to now be serving patients as the director of case management in San Angelo and looks forward to building relationships within the community to help ensure patients can return home safely.
Payal Parekh, PharmD, MHA is the director of pharmacy at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health. She earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Long Island University and then went on to earn her master’s degree in health administration from Midwestern State University. She has more than 15 years of experience in both hospital and outpatient pharmacy practice. Her professional interests remain focused on patient and medication safety, workflow efficiencies, process improvement and automation utilization.
Director of Human Resources
Whitney serves as the human resources director at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital. Whitney began her career in human resources in a rural hospital setting, where she served as the director before joining Shannon Medical Center in the employee relations department. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Angelo State University. In her role, Whitney focuses on employee morale and fostering a positive work culture for all employees.
Business Development Director
Maree, a native of San Angelo, brings more than 15 years of experience to her position as the business development director at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health. Starting her career as a certified respiratory therapist in San Antonio in 2000, she soon found her true calling in the marketing field and was promoted at two different companies to a director level. In 2014, she joined Encompass Health as a senior account executive for its home health branch in San Angelo then transferred to Encompass Health’s rehabilitation hospital in Abilene in 2019 to serve as a marketing liaison. Maree attended St. Philips College for her respiratory care therapy certification. She hopes her passion to serve others through marketing and sales will benefit patients and their families throughout the San Angelo community and surrounding Concho Valley.
Director of Quality and Risk Management
Bridget serves as the director of quality and risk management at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health. Bridget achieved a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology from Angelo State University. After a career in counseling, she attended Texas Tech and graduated summa cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2013. Her nursing career includes years working in the intensive care unit, achieving her certified rehabilitation registered nurse credential and one year serving as a float pool nurse at Community Medical Center, now Shannon South. Prior to her current position with Encompass Health in San Angelo, she spent three years as the nurse manager for Shannon Medical Center’s behavioral health unit. Bridget has a passion for process improvement and bringing out the best in others.
