At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Scottsdale, we serve the greater Phoenix area as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Medical Director
Dr. Yu serves as medical director at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale. He is a board-certified physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He completed medical school at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, and his residency at Schwab Rehabilitation/University of Chicago. His clinical interests include neurorehabilitation, brain and spinal cord injuries, transplant rehabilitation, post-trauma care and cancer rehabilitation. Dr. Yu also has a master's degree in management information systems and worked in the IT field before becoming a physician. He holds professional memberships with the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and American Osteopathic Association. Dr. Yu believes in an interdisciplinary approach toward improving patients' functional outcomes.
Director of Pharmacy
Barlas Buyuktimkin joined Encompass Health in October 2011. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 2005 with a doctorate of pharmacy (PharmD) degree and received his second doctorate (Ph.D.) in pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Kansas in 2011. He serves on several local hospital committees and is an adjunct assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Midwestern University. Barlas has six peer-reviewed publications, has authored two book chapters and holds one U.S. patent.
Controller
Lisa joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale in April 2007. Lisa graduated from Arizona State University in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She was an audit manager for seven years with Deloitte & Touche and has more than 15 years of controller experience.
Director of Case Management
Anna joined the Encompass team in 2017 as the director of case management. She began her career specializing in psychiatric work completing her undergraduate work at the University of Kent in England and the University of Denver. She then went on to complete a master's degree in social work from Wayne State University. Anna transitioned to medical social work almost 20 years ago and has served as the director of case management in other hospital settings, completing her specialty certification in case management before joining the Encompass team. She currently is a field instructor for multiple universities including ASU.
Area Business Development Director
Curtis is the area business development director for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of East Valley and Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale and has oversight of all marketing and communication functions for the hospitals. He brings experience in rehabilitation healthcare and proven success in brand positioning, team building, volume growth and community marketing. He brings with him 15 years of total healthcare experience, including his experience as business development director at Encompass Health Northern Virginia. Curtis is a graduate of Mountain State University with an Associate of Science and is a certified occupational therapist assistant.
Director of Plant Operations
John joined Encompass Health in July 2009. He has more than 30 years of experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance. John obtained his electrical apprenticeship/journeyman in Pennsylvania. His experience includes being a chief building engineer for commercial and high-rise structures in the greater Phoenix area.
Human Resources Director
Karen brings 16 years of human resources experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Karen was the human resources director for Lovelace Health System in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A native of New Mexico but new to the Phoenix area, Karen earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in human resources from National American University.
Director of Quality and Risk
Greg joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale in October 2015. As the director of quality and risk, Greg oversees the patient experience and policy compliance. He also supervises the patient assessment standards coordinator and chairs several committees. Greg switched careers from banking to healthcare in 2008 when he went back to graduate school to pursue a career in occupational therapy. He’s earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Arizona State University, master's degree in business administration from University of Phoenix and a master's degree in occupational therapy from A.T. Still University. His career focus has always included serving those in need, and providing recommendations for best practices to senior leadership.
Director of Therapy Operations
Pamela began her therapy career with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Scottsdale in January 2012. She started out as a staff occupational therapist and worked her way up to a lead manager before being promoted to her current position of director of therapy. She has a passion working with patients with neurological impairment and her career focus has been in the post-acute/rehabilitation side of therapy. She also helped initiate the stroke support group at Encompass Health Scottsdale. Pamela found her interest in occupational therapy by teaching gymnastics to children with special needs. She achieved her Bachelor of Science in psychology from Arizona State University and her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Midwestern University. She is a proud native of Arizona.
