Chief Executive Officer
Zach has been appointed CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County.
Zach has been appointed CEO of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County. Kirby began his career as a physical therapist and program coordinator at East Alabama Medical Center. In this role, he oversaw staff and students' training, placement and management. He also developed and coordinated services for patients receiving cancer treatment. Kirby then became the director of rehabilitation services in Durham, North Carolina for four years managing all daily operations of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation within the post-acute care center. Following this role, Kirby joined Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee, where he served as director of rehabilitative services, executive champion of environmental services and senior director of professional and support services. In this role, he led new business development plans that provided a capital growth of $12M and positive oversight that resulted in all departments scoring at the top quartile in associate loyalty and engagement. Kirby then joined Encompass Health as associate administrator at Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, where he managed daily operations and the hospital budget and improved the hospital’s position in company clinical ratings. While serving in this role at Encompass Health, Kirby also engaged in the developing future CEO program and exceeded all performance goals. A licensed physical therapist, Kirby earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Auburn University, his master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of North Carolina and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of South Alabama. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Physical Therapy Association.
Medical Director
Dr. Kirksey is a graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.
Dr. Kirksey is a graduate of the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. She completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Carolinas Rehabilitation in Charlotte, NC where she served as chief resident. Prior to joining Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County, Dr. Kirksey was a member of the physical medicine and rehabilitation department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where she held the position of residency program director and medical director of the spinal cord injury inpatient program. She is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Kirksey is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Quality & Risk
Heather joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County in July 2022 as director of quality & risk. Prior to joining the Encompass Health team, she served as the quality and risk coordinator at Encompass Health Lakeshore. Heather brings more than 15 years of inpatient rehabilitation experience as an occupational therapist and patient assessment standards coordinator with Encompass Health to her new role. Heather attended Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi for her undergraduate degree and received her degree in occupational therapy from the University of Tennessee at Memphis. Heather is passionate about teamwork and collaborative practice to provide the safest, most effective and best quality of care for patients.

Michael began his career with Encompass Health in 2018 as a physical therapist at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County. He served in the therapy department as a senior physical therapist for more than three years before being promoted to director of therapy operations. Michael obtained his doctorate degree in physical therapy at the University of South Alabama and has also received a certification in neuro-developmental treatment.
Human Resources Director
Leslie began her career with Encompass Health in 2021 with more than 20 years of human resources experience. Prior to joining Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Shelby County, she served as the human resource manager for Noland Health Services. Leslie earned her bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Danny began his career in residential maintenance and facilities in 1990. In 2009, Danny joined Encompass Health as a maintenance mechanic at the Rehab Institute of St. Louis. Danny served as a maintenance supervisor prior to his transition to the Shelby County location in 2020.
Area Business Development Director
Tamika became the area business development director for Encompass Health in 2022. She has 20 years of healthcare experience including nursing and marketing. Her nursing experience includes trauma and burn intensive care, nurse coordinator for otolaryngology and care management for critically-ill ventilated population while also serving in a leadership role. Tamika earned her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing.
Area Controller
Kim re-joined the Encompass Health Lakeshore Rehabilitation Hospital team in 2011. She has over 20 years of experience in acute and rehabilitation healthcare settings. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. Kim is also a Certified Public Accountant.
