At South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of UMC and Encompass Health, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Lubbock, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Beth serves as the chief executive officer for South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital. Beth previously served as CEO at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Plano after serving as associate administrator at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of The Woodlands. Beth began her career with Encompass Health as the director of quality & risk management at CHI St. Joseph Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health in Bryan, Texas. She holds a doctorate degree in leadership from Walden University, a master’s degree in health administration and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Texas A&M University. Beth has served in various leadership roles throughout her career which comprise of inpatient acute care, critical access hospital and inpatient rehabilitation.
Medical Director
Dr. Tuamokumo, medical director of South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital, is a board-certified physical medicine and rehabilitation physician. Dr. Tuamokumo earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Florida College of Medicine. After medical school, he completed a one-year internal medicine internship at the University of Florida and his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Aside from his medical director duties, Dr. Tuamokumo serves as a clinical assistant professor at Texas Tech University.
Dr. Tuamokumo is an independent private practice physician.
Human Resources Director
Chandon has been a human resources professional for the last 10 years. He began his career as a human resources consultant but quickly moved into HR technology. His experience includes the both the education industry and healthcare. Chandon has a bachelor's degree and SHRM- CP certification. He is in the process of finishing his master's degree in human resources management.
Director of Therapy Operations
Jennifer has been an occupational therapist for 13 years. She graduated from Texas Tech University health sciences center in 2008 with her master’s degree in occupational therapy. Jennifer started as a student at Encompass Health in Midland, Texas in 2008 and began working full-time after graduating. Jennifer relocated to Lubbock to open South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital as the occupational therapy lead.
Director of Quality
Dava serves as director of case management at South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital. She started her career at Encompass Health’s sister hospital in Midland in 2011 as a registered respiratory therapist then was quickly recruited to case management. She received her Certified Case Manager Certification in 2016 and is currently working on her bachelor’s degree in health care administration. Dava is focused on patient advocacy and education to ensure safe discharges home.
Facilities Management Director
Ty is a dedicated professional serving as the facilities management director at South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital. With a career spanning over 25 years, Ty has amassed extensive expertise in safety management, emergency preparedness, hazardous waste handling, dietary operations, maintenance and security. Throughout his career, Ty has demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of both patients and staff. His wealth of experience and diverse skillset make him an invaluable asset to the hospital where he plays a pivotal role in maintaining a secure, efficient and compliant environment. Ty's leadership and proficiency in various critical areas contribute significantly to the smooth operation and overall success of South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital.
Business Development Director
Kelli Gibson, formerly Kelli Freeman, recently relocated to the Lubbock area after serving as the business development director at Encompass Health’s sister hospital in Abilene, Texas. In 2014, she started her career with Encompass Health as a liaison with its location in Midland, where she was later promoted to a senior liaison role. Kelli is excited to serving the needs of the Lubbock and surrounding communities!
Chief Nursing Officer
Jennifer serves as the chief nursing officer for South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Jennifer comes to Lubbock from East Texas where she served in many different roles at UT Health East Texas. She holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Excelsior College. Jennifer’s experience comprises of long-term care, internal medicine, weight loss management, orthopedics, risk/quality management and med surge. Patient and caregiver safety is her priority.
Chief Financial Officer
Mark Proctor joined South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital as the chief financial officer in February 2019. He brings a tremendous amount of experience to this role after serving in controller positions for 23 years. Mark’s financial management career has given him expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and developing strategic business plans. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Texas A&M University and has spent the past 12 years serving as the controller for two general acute care hospitals in Roswell, New Mexico.
Director of Pharmacy
Kurt began his career in healthcare early as he helped his parents at their pharmacy in rural Colorado. He performed every job the pharmacy had to offer. He stocked shelves, maintained inventory, helped patients, delivered and installed durable medical equipment to patient homes and more. He became passionate about the impact the healthcare services they provided could improve community members quality of life. He received his doctorate of pharmacy and an MBA in health administration from the University of Colorado. Over his career in pharmacy he has had the opportunity to experience environments in retail, outpatient services, long term care, acute care hospital and a rehabilitation hospital. He understands the importance of different healthcare settings and how they can affect patients’ lives to give them the best possible quality of life.
Director of Case Management
Rachel is the director of case management, a position she has held since 2023. Her background in therapy brings a unique perspective to the discharge process by ensuring an interdisciplinary approach to the discharge planning process throughout every patient’s stay at South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital (SPRH). Rachel joined the SPRH team in 2020 as a speech language pathologist and became the speech therapy team lead in 2022 prior to assuming the director position. She has experience working in several medical settings, including acute care, skilled nursing and inpatient rehabilitation. Rachel’s focus is ensuring that patients and families are educated and prepared for the safest possible discharge outcome.
