Beth Elder has been appointed as chief executive officer of South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of UMC and Encompass Health. In her position as CEO, Elder oversees the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 66-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, located at 5406 Colgate Street. She assumed the position earlier this year.

South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital has served more than 2,3000 patients since its opening two years ago, and now the hospital is expanding to meet the growing community need for inpatient rehabilitation.

Encompass Health and UMC celebrated the opening of their new hospital in Lubbock on May 15, 2019. South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of UMC and Encompass Health, is a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital that will begin serving patients on May 20, 2019.

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, our inclusion and diversity committee acknowledged a local Lubbock entrepreneur to help share his story and his love for the culinary arts. As a hands-on activity they also created a sensory table to allow employees, patients and visitors to use all five of their senses. Thank you, Dalton, for gifting us your creative and amazing cotton candy!

This month, our hospital celebrates our amazing occupational therapists (OTs) for all the hard work they do to help our patients get back to their daily lives. As one of our lead OTs explains: OTs help their patients in their day-to-day lives by re-associating with how to get dressed, how to bathe, cooking, gardening and many other daily activities.
