LUBBOCK, Texas, May 26, 2023- Beth Elder has been appointed as chief executive officer of South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of UMC and Encompass Health. In her position as CEO, Elder oversees the day-to-day operations as well as patient care and quality at the 66-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital, located at 5406 Colgate Street. She assumed the position earlier this year.

Elder first joined Encompass Health in July 2016 as director of quality and risk management at CHI St. Joseph Health Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate with Encompass Health in Bryan, Texas. She most recently served as the associate administrator at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of The Woodlands and Vision Park in Conroe, Texas. Her accomplishments with Encompass Health include leading the Plano hospital in its achievement of The Joint Commission certification as a Disease Specific Care facility for strokes, hip fractures, and cardiac programs and the completion of the Developing Future CEO program.

Elder earned her bachelor’s degree in economics and master’s in health administration from Texas A&M University. She also earned her Doctor of Philosophy in health services from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
