In celebration of Doctors' Day, we want to highlight our medical director of Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital of York, Dr. Hejab Imteyaz! Dr. Imteyaz is a physiatrist. A physiatrist is a doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, using a comprehensive approach in treating the entire patient, not just symptoms. Dr. Imteyaz’s favorite part of her role is the team approach taken in treating our patients, and of course, seeing the positive changes in the patients that enable them to meet their goals in rehabilitation. Dr. I received her resident training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. We are very fortunate to have such a highly trained and devoted physician as our medical director overseeing our patients’ care. Happy Doctor’s Day DrI!

Hospital Happenings

At Encompass Health of York, Pennsylvania, an interdisciplinary approach is used to teach patients and their families about diabetes. A five-day group class plus individual education is offered to all patients with pre-diabetes and diabetes. The team provides a 30-to 60-minute group class Monday through Friday. Patients can join any day of the week during their stay. Each day of the week has a specific topic which incorporates the AADE 7. Statistics show that people with diabetes are known to have a higher risk of a 30-day readmission following hospitalization. Diabetes education provided to patients while in the hospital setting can help prevent readmissions to the hospital.
