At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Montgomery and serving the tri-county area, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, amputation, hip fracture and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Jeffrey Eng is a native of New York and moved to Montgomery in 1998 to become the director of traumatic brain injury at Encompass Health, formerly HealthSouth. He has held the medical director position since 2001. Dr. Eng completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He also completed an internal medicine internship at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Eng is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Dr. Eng is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Therapy Operations
Chief Nursing Officer
Gretchen is a nurse executive with 15 years of progressive health care experience with a focus on facility operations, regulatory compliance, quality and patient safety. She earned an associate degree in nursing from Troy University and bachelor’s degree in nursing from Chamberlain University. Gretchen is a nationally certified neurology nurse and a nurse manager fellow of the American Organization of Nurse Executives. Prior to her position at HealthSouth, Gretchen has held various leadership roles including director of orthopedics and neurology as well as oncology and general surgery.
Business Development Director
Kim has been employed at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery since 1989. She received a degree in biology from Tuskegee University and later attended Troy State University's School of Nursing to become a registered nurse. Kim has worked in various positions during her tenure at the hospital but has found that nursing is her passion.
Director of Human Resources
Kim joined the Encompass Health Montgomery, formerly HealthSouth Montgomery team in 2007. She has more than 20 years of experience in human resources management. She oversees all areas of human resources, such as recruitment and retention. Kim graduated from Auburn University Montgomery with a bachelor’s degree in human resources.
Director of Pharmacy
Clint joined Encompass Health Montgomery, formerly HealthSouth Montgomery in 2017. He is a graduate of Auburn University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1993 and his doctorate degree in pharmacy degree in 1998. Clint has more than 20 years of experience in institutional pharmacy practice and management, including leadership in clinical pharmacy practice, acute care hospital operations, and health system leadership roles.
Director of Facilities Management
Retired from Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department, Mike comes to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery with 24 years of safety experience. He has worked in the Hazmat and Medic Division while serving the city. Mike grew up building race car engines with his father, and has over 30 years of experience in the maintenance field. He became Baptist Medical Centers first emergency preparedness coordinator for all their facilities. Mike is a member of the Alabama Society for Healthcare Engineers. He also holds a place on the codes and standards committee.
Director of Case Management
Sharlotte has been employed at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery, formerly HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery since 1992. She has 29 years of nursing experience of which 23 years have been with HealthSouth. She has functioned in the capacity of case manager for 17 years. Sharlotte graduated with a degree in nursing from Wallace College.
Director of Quality and Risk
Tammy joined the quality team at Encompass Health Montgomery, formerly HealthSouth Montgomery in March 2017. She has 20 plus years of nursing experience in critical care and nursing management. Her mission is to create an environment and culture that enables the facility to fulfill its mission by meeting and exceeding its goals. She ensures proper compliance with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, corporate and hospital policies and procedures and works to develop, implement, and maintain quality assessment and improvement programs within the hospital.
