Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River continues commitment to care excellence by achieving certification for Parkinson’s Disease rehabilitation program

TOMS RIVER, N.J., Sept. 20, 2023 – Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Toms River recently achieved Disease-Specific Care Certification for its Parkinson’s Disease rehabilitation program from The Joint Commission. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

The inpatient rehabilitation hospital underwent a rigorous survey for certification of this rehabilitation program. During the review, a Joint Commission expert surveyor evaluated compliance with disease certification standards. The surveyor also conducted virtual observations and interviews.

The Joint Commission’s hospital standards are developed in consultation with healthcare experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The standards are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help hospitals measure, assess and improve performance. The Joint Commission has accredited hospitals for more than 60 years. More than 4,000 general, children’s, long-term acute, psychiatric, rehabilitation and specialty hospitals currently maintain accreditation from The Joint Commission.

Encompass Health of Toms River now holds seven certifications for Disease-Specific Care from The Joint Commission including: stroke, cardiac, pulmonary, wound care, advanced inpatient diabetes, brain injury and Parkinson’s Disease rehabilitation. The hospital provides patients with an individualized treatment plan that includes physical, occupational and speech therapies. With at least three hours of comprehensive therapy for five days each week and around-the-clock nursing care, teams of expert clinicians combine customized treatment plans with advanced technologies to help train patients for everyday tasks.
