At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Petersburg and serving the greater Richmond area, we are a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, brain injury, cardio-pulmonary conditions and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.

Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

During a time of visitor restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg developed a special activity to keep their patients’ spirits uplifted. They hosted pet therapy through the windows of patient rooms. Therapy visits were made by a show pony, a K9 and his officer, and other staff members’ pets.

JOHN LAURENZANA

Chief Executive Officer

John was named chief executive officer of Encompass Health Hospital Petersburg in March of 2022.

John was named chief executive officer of Encompass Health Hospital Petersburg in March of 2022. John’s career has spanned multiple states, where he opened new inpatient facilities and improved the outcomes of existing facilities. His leadership in post-acute care services resulted in earning a #1 nationally ranked facility for value-based care for three consecutive years; and he has led multiple facilities to national recognition by US News & World Report for quality of care outcomes, annually. John credits these successes to a deliberate focus on patient-centered outcomes and employee engagement. Most recently, he has served in senior leadership roles for the largest hospital system in North Carolina within both the medical group and inpatient facility operations, where he made significant improvements to quality outcomes, operational efficiency, productivity and other performance outcomes. John earned his master's degree in business administration with a concentration in healthcare management from Liberty University. He also holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Illinois at Springfield. John is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Veteran of the US Marine Corps and has served on several boards of directors for various public and civic organizations.

Randolph Jenkins, M.D.

Medical Director

Dr. Jenkins joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg in February 2021.

Dr. Jenkins joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg in February 2021. He earned his undergraduate degree at Davidson College, and received his medical degree from the Wake Forest School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Director of Pharmacy

Dickson was promoted to director of pharmacy in December 2018.

With eight years of experience as an acute care and rehabilitation pharmacy practice experience, Dickson was promoted to director of pharmacy in December 2018. He has a passion for infectious disease pharmacy and medication safety. Dickson holds a bachelor’s degree in natural resource management from the University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, Ghana, and obtained pre-professional pharmacy education from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia from 2005 to 2007. Dickson graduated from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) School of Pharmacy in Erie, Pennsylvania, with a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.

Mary joined Encompass Health in 2009 as a rehab nursing tech.

Mary joined Encompass Health in 2009 as a rehab nursing tech. She earned her associate’s degree in nursing at Paul D. Camp Community College in 2011 and became a registered nurse. Mary has since served in many different roles. She entered the quality discipline as a patient assessment standards coordinator in 2020 and advanced to quality coordinator before being promoted to director of quality/risk in January 2022.

Tonya came to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg in August 2021 as director of human resources.

Tonya came to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg in August 2021 as director of human resources having transferred from UVA Encompass Health where she held the same title since 2007. Her career spans 28 years of experience in the field of human resources, with 16 years in the healthcare industry. Tonya graduated from Strayer University of Manassas, Virginia with a master’s degree in business administration in 2006 and a master’s degree of health services administration in 2009. Tonya feels that in keeping employee relations a top priority you can create the best possible environment to achieve overall hospital goals and objectives.

LISA JOHNSTON

Controller

Lisa joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg as controller in January 2022.

Lisa joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg as controller in January 2022. Prior to joining Encompass Health, Lisa most recently served as AVP accounting manager at American National Bank & Trust where she was involved in multiple bank mergers, acquisitions and other growth projects. Lisa worked in senior finance roles in banking, skilled nursing facilities and the automotive industry. Lisa received her master’s degree in business administration from Liberty University and received her bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Averett University. She is actively involved in various civic engagement projects and serves on the housing selection committee for Habitat for Humanity.

Chief Nursing Officer

Rick joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg in November of 2022 as the chief nursing officer.

Rick McClenny joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg in November 2022 as the chief nursing officer. He is a forward thinking, multifaceted and dedicated healthcare professional, accomplished in diverse roles. As a registered nurse, Rick has experiences at all levels of direct patient care in surgical and orthopedic inpatient nursing; as well as home health/skilled nursing. After moving to administrative and management roles, Rick’s career progressed to include quality, regulatory compliance, patient safety, risk management, hospital administration and nursing operations. Most recently Rick served as chief quality officer for a Virginia community hospital that offered acute and post-acute care services, where he led substantial improvements to patient safety, quality outcomes, patient experience and employee engagement. Rick started his healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant in 2003 and became a registered nurse in 2006. Rick earned his associate degree in nursing from Paul D. Camp Community College, his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University and his master’s degree in health administration from Ohio University. Rick is also a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality and serves on Paul D. Camp Community College’s Nursing and Allied Health Advisory Board.

Director of Therapy Operations

Kristin’s career as a physical therapist has been focused in the inpatient rehabilitation setting and she has been with Encompass Health since 2008.

Kristin’s career as a physical therapist has been focused in the inpatient rehabilitation setting and she has been with Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg since 2008. She began her career as a physical therapist at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Rock Hill, SC and joined the Encompass Health Petersburg team as lead physical therapist in 2013. Kristin was then promoted to director of therapy operations in 2014. She received her undergraduate degree and a Master of Science in exercise sports science in 2005 and her doctorate in physical therapy in 2008 from Elon University. Kristin is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, as well as, the Virginia Physical Therapy Association and she resides in Richmond, VA.

Stephanie was named area business development director for the greater Richmond market in February 2021.

Stephanie was named area business development director for the greater Richmond market in February 2021. Beginning her nursing career as an ICU RN she quickly become passionate about patient recovery after the acute stay. She joined Encompass Health in 1994 with the opening of their hospital in Memphis. Her career journey has led her to four different Encompass Health hospitals where she has led nursing, quality and business development teams. With a focus on directing patient access to the highest level of post-acute care, quality patient outcomes and customer service, Stephanie has successfully led the greater Richmond metro market to award-winning results. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and has served on several charitable organizations’ committees and boards.

Tina joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia as a PRN case manager back in 2018.

Tina joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Virginia as a PRN case manager back in 2018. She quickly transitioned her way from PRN to full time to recently becoming the director of case management at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Petersburg. Originally from Michigan, Tina has a vast experience in healthcare for the past 10 years which includes billing and coding, practice management and social work. In her free time she enjoys trying out new restaurants and playing soccer for her local community league.
