At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richmond, we are committed to helping you regain independence after a life-changing illness or injury. Located in Richmond, we serve Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield counties as a leading provider of inpatient rehabilitation for stroke, cardiac conditions, Parkinson’s disease and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.
Using clinical collaboration and advanced technologies, we provide a personalized care plan designed to meet your unique needs and help you achieve your goals.
Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Vivian joined Encompass Health in April, 2019. She received a bachelor’s degree in nursing in Minnesota. Over the last decade Vivian has provided leadership for a healthcare services company by serving roles such as CEO and division vice president; regional senior director of sales and marketing. Her management provide support to clinical and administrative efforts, while maintaining positive customer relations, and her motivation comes from working with a dynamic team who is dedicated to providing an exceptional patient experience. In February 2022 Vivian was promoted to area CEO for the Richmond and Petersburg Encompass Health hospitals.
Medical Director
Dr. Wichman comes to us from Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, N.C. where he served as the chief of physical medicine and rehabilitation and battalion surgeon for the 1-508 Parachute Infantry Division 82nd Airborne, with active service in Afghanistan. Dr. Wichman earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, with postdoctoral training at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. In addition to his duties as medical director at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richmond Dr. Wichman competes in national Crossfit and mud racing competitions, is an active aviator with a commercial pilot’s license, and is cultivating a hop farm in Craig County, Va.
Dr. Wichman is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Pharmacy
Brice graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Pharmacy in 2006. He joined the Encompass Rehabilitation team as the director of pharmacy in 2013. Since then he has worked on key initiatives with the company. Brice works closely with other departments to provide individualized care that meets each patient’s specific needs.
Director of Quality & Risk
Maggie has been a member of the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Richmond since 2008 as the director of quality & risk management. She began her career in healthcare as an LPN. During her ten-year tenure with the Tennessee QIO she obtained her Certification in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) in 1998. She obtained her degree in health information management and is currently a member of AHIMA, NAHQ and ASHRM.
Human Resources Director
Kristen joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital in May 2018. She holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary liberal arts with dual focus on leadership and psychology from the University of Richmond. She is a certified coach with specialization in career coaching. Kirsten has more than 20 years’ experience in human resource management within the healthcare and technology industries. At Encompass Health in Richmond, Kristen leads the human resources department supporting talent acquisition, talent management, employee relations, staff development, employment legal compliance and employee safety.
Chief Nursing Officer
Ryan joined Encompass Health in July, 2019. He received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science/leadership from James Madison University. Additionally, he received a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Radford University, and a master’s degree in nursing with a concentration as a family nurse practitioner from Walden University. He has over a decade of experience in a level one trauma nursing care, as well as serving numerous years as a nurse manager for a medical surgical, progressive care, critical, behavioral health and inpatient physical rehabilitation nursing teams. His management provides strategic nursing direction to support quality outcomes as well as an exceptional patient experience through the interdisciplinary approach. His motivation comes from working with a dynamic team that shares the same passion of serving those in need on a daily basis.
Director of Case Management
Karen joined the Encompass Health team in January 2020. She has dedicated her career to leading the collaborative process of case management and ensuring quality patient care through advocacy, teamwork and optimization of resources. Karen is an Accredited Case Manger (ACM) with the Case Management Association and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with the Virginia Board of Health Professionals. She is a proud graduate of the Virginia Commonwealth University’s accelerated clinical social work graduate program and Christopher Newport University’s School of Social Work.
Area Business Development Director
Stephanie started her career with Encompass Health in June 1994 as part of the Encompass Health team in Memphis, TN. She has held various positions in nursing, infection control, quality and risk management, and business development in Encompass Health hospitals in Memphis and Chattanooga, and relocated to the Richmond area in February 2021. Since 2010, she has led a team of business development professionals to grow hospital access and worked to serve the local community in providing the highest level of post-acute care to patients in need. Stephanie received her bachelor's degree in nursing from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She is motivated daily by working with a group of individuals who are excited about achieving the best possible outcomes that positively impact people’s lives!
Facilities Management Director
Ryan joined Encompass Health in March 2021. He began his career in 2005 working construction and remodeling for a family-owned business. Ryan has held numerous position in building maintenance from technician to corporate facilities manager for hotels and senior living centers. With years of experience in construction, Ryan’s approach is hand-on with a strong commitment to patient safety, efficient building operations and security.
Director of Therapy Operations
Michelle joined the team at Encompass Health Richmond in September 2020. Michelle brings more than 25 years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist and 20 years as a leader of therapy services including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, home health, SNF and early intervention. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire and Boston University Sargent College in 1994. She obtained a geriatric scholar specialization from Cornell University. Having grown up in South America, Michelle is trilingual and is an active advocate for inclusion and diversity.
