Medical Director
Dedicated to the health and wellbeing of her patients, Dr. Tanya S. Harris holds triple board certifications in physical medicine & rehabilitation, electrodiagnostic medicine and brain injury medicine. After completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, Dr. Harris went on to be the youngest graduate of her class at Philadelphia's Temple University School of Medicine. She also finished at the top of her residency at the University of Kentucky before starting her own rehabilitation practice. Drawn to neurorehabilitation, she then had the privilege of serving as TBI/polytrauma director for a major veterans' hospital where she helped bolster function and quality of life among combat veterans. In 2018, she was recruited as national medical director/chief medical officer for New Zealand’s largest brain injury and stroke rehabilitation provider. She has enjoyed teaching residents and furthering standards of care from the local to the international level. She is especially excited for the opportunity to promote care as medical director at the opening Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital in her new home of San Angelo, Texas.
Dr. Harris is an independent private practice physician.
Chief Nursing Officer
Anissa Johnson serves as the chief nursing officer at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital, an affiliate of Encompass Health. Prior to joining the Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital team, she served as a nurse manager at Encompass Health’s hospital in Lubbock, South Plains Rehabilitation Hospital. She has a passion for patient advocacy and excellence in the delivery of patient care. Starting her nursing career as a licensed vocational nurse in 1996, her nursing journey has given her the opportunity to work in a variety of acute care settings. Some of the positions she has held are primary stroke center coordinator, house supervisor and patient placement coordinator at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Anissa earned her master’s degree in nursing from Lubbock Christian University in Lubbock, Texas.
Director of Case Management
Amanda brings with her more than 23 years of clinical experience with a background in nursing and case management. She is a west Texas native and a 1999 graduate from Angelo State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Amanda is excited to now be serving patients as the director of case management in San Angelo and looks forward to building relationships within the community to help ensure patients can return home safely.
Director of Human Resources
Whitney serves as the human resources director at Shannon Rehabilitation Hospital. Whitney began her career in human resources in a rural hospital setting, where she served as the director before joining Shannon Medical Center in the employee relations department. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Angelo State University. In her role, Whitney focuses on employee morale and fostering a positive work culture for all employees.
