Located in Tallahassee, we are a leading provider of inpatient physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech language pathology for stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury and other complex neurological and orthopedic conditions.

Our inpatient rehabilitation hospital uses an interdisciplinary team approach that includes physical, speech and occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians, rehabilitation nurses, case managers, dietitians and more, combined with our advanced technology and expertise, to help you achieve your goals. You will receive at least three hours of therapy five days per week while under the constant care of registered nurses, many of whom specialize in rehabilitation, and frequent independent private practice physician* visits.
Rehabilitation is covered in full or part by most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid. Our hospital has contracts with most major insurance companies and is willing to negotiate with other companies, as needed.

Chief Executive Officer
Dale began his healthcare career in 1998 as a physical therapist with Encompass Health in Florence, Alabama. After receiving his Master of Business Administration (MBA), he went to work for Hospital Corporation of America as an associate administrator and advanced to chief operating officer at HCA facilities in Georgia and Florida. He joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tallahassee in December of 2012. A Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Dale received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Tennessee and a MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University.
Dr. Rowland of Southern Medical Group, P.A., graduated cum laude from Duke University before receiving a Master of Science in Chemistry from Florida State University. He completed medical school and an internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He is board certified in internal medicine, a member of the American College of Physicians, and is active in the Capital Medical Society of Tallahassee.
Dr. Rowland is an independent private practice physician.
Director of Human Resources
Carol has more than 10 years of experience in human resources management. She brings a vast knowledge in human resources through an extensive career in the field. Carol began her career with The Target Company and continued with Bank of America, The Cheesecake Factory Incorporated and Amedisys Home Health. She joined Encompass Health in 2012 and oversees all areas of human resources including recruitment and retention, regulatory compliance, compensation, benefits, employee relations, performance management, and training.
Director of Case Management
Lisa has served as the director of case management for Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tallahassee since February of 2019. She began her career in healthcare in 1995 after completing her bachelor’s degree in social science at Florida State University in 1993. Then, she went on to achieve an associate degree in nursing from Tallahassee Community College in 1995. The first eight years of Lisa’s nursing career were in the role of home health field registered nurse; and in 2003, she began working in the capacity of liaison/patient care coordinator for home health and home infusion companies in Tallahassee. In January of 2017, Lisa moved into the care transition coordinator role for Encompass Health Home Health Tallahassee then transferred into the role of branch director before moving into her current role.
Jennifer brings 20 years of accounting and finance experience to Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tallahassee. In addition to Encompass Health, her background in healthcare includes working with Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare as well as serving as the controller for Southeastern Urological Center, P.A. She is responsible for all accounting functions including patient business services, accounts payable, payroll and purchasing. Born and raised in Tallahassee, Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Florida State University.
Director of Plant Operations
Todd graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He served in the Navy Nuclear Power program for eight years and earned a Master of Science in Management from Troy State University. He comes to Encompass Health with a diverse background in the operations and maintenance of a variety of mechanical and electrical systems.
Director of Quality and Risk Management
Val is a licensed healthcare risk manager and a certified wound specialist. She has been a clinician and educator in wound management and healthcare for the past 25 years. She was formerly the clinical manager of advanced wound care services and hyperbaric medicine at Capital Regional Medical Center. Val earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Slippery Rock University, a master’s degree in movement science education from Florida State University, and a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Florida A&M University. As a member of the United States Women’s National Rugby Team from 1990-1992, Val helped lead the U.S. to the first Women’s Rugby World Cup Championship in 1991 in Cardiff, Wales.
Chief Nursing Officer
Scott joined Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Tallahassee in 2009. He graduated from Florida State University in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in biology and then in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in nursing. In 2013 Scott was voted Nurse of Excellence and also earned a certified rehabilitation registered nurse certification showing his commitment to the field of rehabilitation. He is currently working toward a master's degree in business administration. Scott has held several titles during his tenure at Encompass Health Tallahassee. Prior to becoming the chief nursing officer in November 2020, Scott held titles of nurse tech, registered nurse, nurse supervisor, and nurse manager.
Director of Therapy Operations
Sara, the director of therapy operations at Encompass Health Tallahassee has been practicing in the field of occupational therapy for more than 25 years. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Bachelor of Health Science in Occupational Therapy and has worked in a variety of healthcare settings all over the country. After completing a post-graduate fellowship in hand therapy, she became a Certified Hand Therapist. She has been employed by Encompass Health for over a decade; and before assuming her current role, she served as a staff therapist and occupational therapy team lead.
