Lisa’s home health therapist referred her to Encompass Health Harmarville for inpatient rehabilitation. At our hospital, Lisa met Diane McCann, pictured below, an occupational therapist who has worked at Encompass Health Harmarville for 29 years. “Lisa was extremely motivated and despite her efforts, presented with neurological signs that hindered her progress,” Diane said. Together, they approached Lisa’s doctor about her symptoms and he agreed that she should see a neurologist for further testing. An MRI confirmed a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. Lisa was relieved to finally have answers and credits much of this to Diane’s expertise. For Diane, Lisa’s diagnosis wasn’t just a lucky guess, as she actively works with the hospital’s multiple sclerosis rehabilitation program that is disease-specific care certified by The Joint Commission and had the knowledge to recognize symptoms. “I am grateful for the skills to drive good healthcare,” Diane said.
