Parkinson’s Awareness Month

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and here at Encompass Health, we would like to raise awareness about available resources for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Lea was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease three years ago, and since then she has experienced decreased fine motor control of both hands and multiple falls. Eight months ago, she underwent deep brain stimulator placement and now is able to feed herself and write again. She can even put on her own eyeliner!

As part of her therapy program at Encompass Health, Lea has been utilizing the U-Step Neuro Walker for all of her mobility tasks. This walking stabilizer was designed to increase independence and eliminate falling for patients with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease. The U-Step Neuro Walker offers laser cueing technology that helps guide Lea’s steps in order to normalize her walking pattern.

Keep up the amazing work, Lea! #KnowMorePD #TechnologyTuesday For more information about the U-Step Neuro Walker, please visit them on Facebook.
