Michelle Fitzgerald named CEO of New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland

Michelle FitzgeraldNov. 4, 2024 - Michelle Fitzgerald has been appointed as chief executive officer of New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland. The hospital is a 90-bed, inpatient rehabilitation hospital located at 335 Brighton Ave., in Portland, Maine. New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland is a joint venture between MaineHealth Maine Medical Center and Encompass Health.

Beginning her career as a physical therapist, Fitzgerald brings 30 years of experience in acute care and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation. She is a health care executive who most recently assisted in the opening of Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Cape Coral, serving as the hospital’s first chief executive officer. Fitzgerald successfully led hospital operations and produced superior patient outcomes.

“Michelle has a proven track record of exceeding hospital goals, providing exceptional patient care and developing effective, integrated teams,” said Pat Tuer, president of Encompass Health’s Northeast region. “She is an accomplished health care leader, and I am confident we will continue to provide high-quality, compassionate rehabilitative care under her leadership.”

Fitzgerald earned her master’s degree in healthcare administration from Worcester State College and bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Simmons College. She holds a Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification from the Six Sigma Global Institute. Fitzgerald is also certified by FEMA in the National Incident Management System.
